My Bonsai Projects Planned for 2024
Now let's take a look at what else I have planned for this year... Spoiler alert, it's too much and a lot more than my garden can handle and a lot more than my wife would approve of.
But what can I do?
I certainly won't keep all the projects myself. The nice thing is that I already have a registered business for online trading and can therefore sell online.
This will help to create space again after I overdid it and flush money into the coffers for new projects. If you are interested in the "economic" aspect behind my bonsai, then feel free to leave a comment.
๐ซ These projects are already underway
Since I'm just starting to blog now, let's start at an earlier point this year. Because my balcony is already green.
I started by taking off the seeds out of my apples that I eat. You can often find seeds in apples that are already germinating, which is great because they grow incredibly well without having to stratify them. More about my apple trees in a future post, for the balance sheet for now the information that 20 apple trees are currently growing on my balcony. ๐๐ณ
Sounds more than it is ๐
I also bought a pomegranate about two months ago and put these seeds in (or rather on) the soil as well. At the moment 10 seeds are already germinating here that I will have to separate soon. There will also be a separate post on this.
I also have 3 Ginkgo seeds in the soil. I bought these specifically as bonsai seeds. I have almost given up hope that they will still germinate, but patience is essential in bonsai breeding.
Maple seeds are currently in my freezer and stratifying. They will be ready to be planted in the course of the week, I'm very excited about that.
๐๐ผ These projects will definitely come
Because I think that not enough trees are germinating yet, I bought a set of bonsai seeds from Amazon.
This contains nine different trees:
a European larch
a red-leaved Japanese maple
a mountain mammoth tree
a privet
a Japanese black pine
a Judas tree
a sycamore maple
a snow eucalyptus
a rock cherry
Sorry, I translated these names freely from German. If you would like to have the botanical name of a plant, please leave a comment.
Since these many beautiful seeds have no use in a small paper bag, they must of course also be put in the ground. You can see, there will be a lot to report.
๐ญ I have these projects in mind.
There are a few more trees that I would really like to have and for which I have planned not to spend any money on seeds, similar to my apples and pomegranates.
An absolute matter of the heart is a red-flowering chestnut, here I have already selected places where I can collect seeds in autumn. I find this tree incredibly beautiful, but the tree does not find it beautiful to be converted into a bonsai. So a real challenge awaits me.
๐ These can be collected around September / October.
What I'm also incredibly excited about is a currant. You read that right, currant! By chance I saw some pictures of currant bonsai and fell in love right away. Firstly, these trees have very beautiful leaves and if there are still fruits on them at the end in summer, it looks really good.
I don't know yet what challenges await me here, but the attempt is absolutely worth it. ๐ซ I get seeds from my mother's garden in June / July. Easy peasy.
What do you have planned for this year? What bonsai projects do you have on your list? Feel free to write it in the comments. I really would love to read your plans! โบ๏ธ
Best regards
